1985 Mesa Boogie MK II A Amp Head
The 1985 Mesa/Boogie Mark II is a highly sought-after, vintage tube guitar amplifier. Produced for a very short period, from early 1984 to March 1985. It is widely celebrated for its rich, dynamic clean tones and its aggressive, singing high-gain lead sound, which was instrumental in shaping the tone of 1980s hard rock and metal. This head is in very good to excellent condition for its age with some discoloration of the tolex on the top and oxidation of some of the exterior cabinet hardware. Despite the cosmetic issues, this head sounds absolutely killer!
Features:
- Dual-mode preamp: A key innovation of the Mark II series was its "Mode Switching" preamp, the first of its kind, allowing players to switch between dedicated clean and overdrive sounds.
- Highly interactive EQ: The Mark II amps feature a powerful but interactive EQ system. Unlike conventional amps where tone knobs affect the sound in a linear way, the Mesa EQ is placed before the gain stage, meaning small adjustments to the bass, middle, and treble controls have a significant impact on the amp's overall character and gain.
