1985 PRS Custom 24 Vintage Yellow w/ OHSC
Here at RFGE, we have garnered a reputation for finding some of the rarest pre factory and early factory builds from PRS over the years. We are located just a short drive from the original PRS factory in Annapolis and we have had a number of very rare PRS guitars and basses come through our shop including several that now reside in the PRS archives at their factory in Stevensville, MD.
This guitar was the 190th guitar that PRS ever made back in 1985. This one owner guitar was purchased new in 1985 and it has been kept away for all of these years. His story is that he owned a small music store back in the 80s and someone came in selling this "new" brand called PRS and he decided he liked this one and kept it for himself. He loved this guitar so much that he told us all about the years he has enjoyed it including a small mishap with a hihat cymbal in 1986 that put the ding near the volume knob. This guitar is 100% original with the possible exception of the knobs. It has a few spare knobs in the case which we think are all from the 90s. The original electronics and hardware are all in tact and fully functional and because it was babied, the original frets still have plenty of life.
These early PRS guitars are becoming highly collectible and they are very rare. Most people agree that Paul Reed Smith is on the Mount Rushmore of American guitar builders and this is a rare opportunity to own one of his earliest builds at PRS guitars. Imagine being able to buy a 52 Les Paul or a 54 Strat 30 years ago when they were affordable? Thats how early PRS guitars are seen in the vintage market these days and they are still within reach for a serious collector. This one includes its original hardshell case which is super clean and a non original backplate that was gifted to the original owner by Paul when he visited the factory.
